I think its dead. Though it wasn't even alive in the first place. Oh well, blame my lethargy, and the moon for not giving us good tides :)
Well for starters, today was a really jellyfishy day, or is it called a sea jelly? Since, after all, a starfish is now a sea star. So I'm guessing this is an unknown jellyfish...

okay, so anyway, that day was quite a normal day at Chek Jawa. Hopefully, one day when the tides are low, I'll be able to visit labrador shore :D
Well, I was quite surprised to find this mama wolf spider (I think) in the plastic bag which I kept my boots in! It must've snuck in side. Fortunately, it wasn't in my boot...Can you see rEpEntancE13http://www.blogger.com/profile/02136050762526129595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6184740074308019421.post-83864113079979376832010-01-07T19:10:00.025+08:002010-02-22T20:17:14.575+08:003rd Jan - 1st intertidal walk of 2010 / first intertidal walk at ChangiI celebrated a new decade, 2010, with my first walk ever at Changi! Changi, being a reclaimed shore, I didn't really expect much seashore life , other than sand, waves and picnics. Of course, there was the less visited side of Changi, so that's where I started off. Like I said, Changi, being more of a tourist area than a seashore, I didn't expect much seashore life, just... ...
Well, litter.

As I crossed over to the coral rubble area, this strange creature caught my eye. I have COMPLETELY no idea what sort of an animal it may be. It seems to be some sort of half-cnidirian, half-mollusc animal, although I found it attached to a sea cucumber, an echinoderm. Then again, could it be a crustacean that has lost its rEpEntancE13http://www.blogger.com/profile/02136050762526129595noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6184740074308019421.post-21450494865672057442009-12-28T09:47:00.004+08:002009-12-28T09:56:49.032+08:00Masked burrowing crab sighted at Chek Jawa!During my night walk on 19 Dec, I made a very special find while on my way to the coral rubble area...
This rather blurry shot of a strange orangish crab, which I presumed as the moult of a mole crab (Albunea groeningi), after reading 'Private Lives'.
Luckily, I managed to snap a slightly clearer shot of this crab. After Checking online, I discovered that it was the moult of a masked rEpEntancE13http://www.blogger.com/profile/02136050762526129595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6184740074308019421.post-86536729152464336332009-12-27T20:29:00.021+08:002009-12-27T22:25:39.484+08:0019 Dec sleepover @ Ubin (2) - Evening intertidal walk at Chek JawaI was really looking forward to this night intertidal walk at Chek Jawa. It was my first ever! I got to see a very different range of nocturnal animals. I was really hoping to see the night-dwelling octopus up close, too! Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, it's difficult holding a camera in one hand and a heavy metal torch in another.

Firstly, we went for a bird ID workshop organised by LK (thanks for the workshop!) I'm not good at birds, but now I think I've memorised a few charecteristics of some birds. After the talk, LK laid out a few bird specimens on the tables...

Here are two comical sea animals...
Apparently, this garlic bread sea cucumber (Holothuria scaba) got impatient waiting for us to release it, and decided to make a move on its own! These sea cucumbers can grow really big, and thus, they are a popular restaurant delicacy. However, they are really poisonous, and have to be treated first.

We saw an oriental pied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) perched on a papaya tree right beside the volunteer hub! Everyone was scrambling for their cameras as the majestic bird seemed to deliberately pose for shots.
Eventually, the hornbill flew away. The way it flies is more like gliding, really.
